Eco-Centres
Sustainability is a major focus for Wells Field
Studies Centre, as well as being a priority on a wider local
and national scale. Our Centre is proud to echo what we teach regarding sustainability in the day-to-day running of the centre. As a result of our efforts we have been awarded the prestigious Eco-Centres Green Flag by EnCams. We invite all visitors at the Centre to join with us in this pursuit and hope that they go away having learned something new. During a stay at the Centre we hope that our visitors will:
..... reduce, reuse and recycle
..... use water carefully
..... help us grow some of our own food
..... turn off lights and equipment when not needed
..... compost our fruit and vegetable waste
..... make sure the things we buy are people & planet friendly (local, fair trade, recycled)
..... put on an extra jumper if we feel cold
..... help us make habitats for, and feed, wildlife
..... walk to places for our activities
..... look after the places we live and work in
We are currently in the process of re-applying for a second Eco-Centres award - please have a look on our Eco-Centres notice board in the Games Room during your stay. We welcome ideas from visitors about how we might become even 'greener'!
There is an equivalent of the Eco-Centres award for schools called Eco-Schools; please chat to us if you are interested. Centre staff would be pleased to advise about opportunities that may exist back in school for becoming more sustainable. Norfolk County Council's Environmental and Outdoor Learning Team have a website with lots of useful information to help you embed the governements 'sustainable schools framework which can be found at www.schools.norfolk.gov.uk/go/envedu
