Construction
of ‘Seaside
Themed’ Raised
Bed
Funded by
the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Sustainable
Development Fund. The 'Wise Up to Water' Project has grown out
of our plans to develop for and with the local community and
visiting school groups, a demonstration low water use, raised
garden bed adjacent and visible from a public footpath. The design
is inspired by the seascape of the Norfolk Coast AONB (groynes/cobbles)
to complement the vernacular architecture of the listed building
(and former town school) that houses NCC's Wells Field Studies
Centre. The raised bed project purpose is educational, environmental
and local amenity.
The raised bed project will enhance the cultural heritage of the
AONB by reflecting the landscape, geology and botany of the coast
within the area of Wells Field Studies Centre.
The planting will be attractive to invertebrates supporting biodiversity.
We use local artists, craftsmen and suppliers wherever possible
to circulate limited funds within the local economy.
